The dress project was a commercial project aimed at a specific brand of our choice. We had to choose a trend story and create a concept from this. After doing research I decided on the Title "Man And The Machine". I considered closely the concepts of synthetic and man-made with organic and natural and how these work together. This lead me to think about the consequences of synthetic materials and how the development of new technology and AI would have an effect on society and our lifestyle.
The brand I chose to design for was Erdem, I found the labels philosophy inspiring. Erdem focuses on the structures of the natural form by using fabrics and prints, this style of work related well to the ideas and the concept that I wanted to represent.
My design was inspired by the relationship between human and machine. I have created a dress with an overlay top which can be joined together from the inside. For this design I took ideas from both the natural and synthetic environment. I produced a panelled dress which flared out at the bottom representing an organic feel and a sense of purity similar to Erdem's style. By using a spacer fabric to create the top I have been able to display an element of futurism.
